STRATFORD - A weekend plane crash at Sikorsky Airport has reignited a long-running debate between Bridgeport and Stratford about the safety of the runway.

Bridgeport city leaders want the fence moved out to create what they call a "safety zone."

Mayor Bill Finch says this would give pilots more room to land their planes and potentially avoid future plane crashes.

The fence has been involved in several accidents in the last 20 years.

Finch needs Stratford officials to be on board with the plan because the airport is owned by Bridgeport, but located in Stratford.

Stratford officials have concerns about how the surrounding area would be impacted.

Airport director John Ricci says the runway is safe, but has to be updated to comply with FAA standards by 2015.
