STAMFORD - Watching the royal wedding on TV last week, two sisters from Stamford were astonished to discover that Kate Middleton's iconic wedding dress is almost identical to the one their mother wore in the 1950s.

Robin Lawler Pavia and Judy Lawler Hasak point out the two dresses have many similarities, including the long sleeves, the lace-and-silk design, the sweetheart neckline, the high collar and the eight-foot train.

According to the sisters, the dress was purchased from Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City for $500.

Both sisters say they wore their mother's dress in their own weddings.

"She picked an absolutely classic, beautiful, sophisticated dress, and 61 years after it is the current 'in' dress," Lawler Pavia says.
