MILFORD - Crews in Milford pulled out snow removal equipment early in an effort to clear sand and debris in the wake of Hurricane Irene.
Area roads have slowly reopened with the help of backhoes and snow shovels, while residents in the Point Beach section of the city remain caked in mud, which is now turning to dust as it dries out. They say the cleanup is overwhelming.
According to Milford Mayor Jim Richetelli, hundreds of homes suffered major damage and at least two dozen were completely destroyed. He expects the cost of repairs will easily reach into the millions of dollars.
