NORWALK - A satellite network installed inside Greenwich Hospital allowed a local father to see the birth of his son from his military assignment in Iraq Wednesday.
Trini Leonard, of Stamford, gave birth to baby boy Andrew Thomas with her husband watching via video conference. Capt. Tim Leonard is on his second tour of duty with the Marines in Iraq.
The wireless camera, microphone and monitor were set up by the nonprofit organization Freedom Calls, which arranges video conferences for families with members in the armed forces. The equipment was wheeled from the delivery room, to the nursery, to the recovery room, allowing Capt. Leonard to see all stages of the birth.
Baby Andrew weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces at birth and joins an older brother, Patrick, who is 2 years old.
