HARTFORD - Connecticut is set to take part in a three-year pilot program to extend the school day.

About 20,000 students in 40 schools in Connecticut and four other states will add at least 300 hours of learning time to the school calendar.

Gov. Dannel Malloy was in Washington, D.C. where the pilot program was announced.

The districts involved are East Hartford, Meriden and New London.

Malloy also said there are already 8 school districts in Connecticut that are extending learning hours in some way this year.
