GREENWICH - Parents from several southwestern Connecticut schools were elated at the arrival of their kids' flight from Europe Monday night.

The district states that nine students arrived at Greenwich High School because their original flight was not canceled due to the volcanic ash cloud over much of Europe.

According to Greenwich High School's headmaster, flights were canceled for 178 other band students in Greece, but late this afternoon, parents were told Delta booked a special direct flight to JFK for those students tomorrow.

The superintendent of Greenwich Public Schools says he's not shocked by the delay. He says all of his students are currently safe in hotels.

The other students are set to return Tuesday around 8 p.m. or 8:30 p.m.
