Southwestern Conn. communities bracing for possible flooding

Emergency managers from across southwestern Connecticut came together today in Bridgeport to discuss the possibility of flooding from a storm expected to hit the region

BRIDGEPORT - Emergency managers from across southwestern Connecticut came together today in Bridgeport to discuss the possibility of flooding from a storm expected to hit the region tomorrow.

Officials say they are monitoring the National Weather Service's radar. They are paying special attention to the Route 8 corridor between the Massachusetts border and southwestern Connecticut -- the projected path of the storm.

Judging by the state of the Norwalk River, experts say tomorrow's storm could be a major weather event that could bring severe flooding to low-lying areas.

Authorities are urging people to make sure their sump pumps are in good working order and their valuables are stored in a high place that would be safe from floodwaters.
