WESTPORT - A nor'easter slammed southwestern Connecticut Saturday, bringing heavy rains and winds up to 50 miles per hour.

The Westport Fire Department says it prepared for emergency calls, flooding and power outages ahead of the storm by checking special equipment like generator pumps, which are used for water evacuations.

Several residents reported downed trees and power lines. Authorities urge residents to stay indoors because of the strong winds.
