STAMFORD - A split verdict was given today to a former Greenwich man, who police say stabbed his wife in the chest with a screwdriver. A Stamford judge found Michael Parrotta guilty of assault, but not guilty of attempted murder. Parrotta, who now lives in New London, faces a jail sentence of five to 20 years for the assault conviction.

Throughout the trial, the defense argued that Parrotta was defending himself when he stabbed his wife several times in the chest outside his home. The prosecution argued that Parrotta was acting out of rage because he was angry about his divorce.

The incident occurred in April 2009, when police say Parrotta's wife was sitting in her car with their 18-year-old autistic son. Man accused in screwdriver stabbing arraignedPolice: Man stabs wife with screwdriver
