STAMFORD - Stamford Animal Control is asking for the public's help to keep its animals warm during the frigid weather.

The unit says it's difficult to get the 201 Magee Ave. building warm because it's made of concrete and cement.

The director says that while there is a heating system, the kennel area usually hovers only at around 60 degrees. Volunteers say it's especially tough because animals are sitting in the kennels almost continually day and night.

Space heaters have been donated, but Stamford Animal Control is requesting blankets, towels, dog beds and sweaters.

There is a petition circulating to get a new shelter built.
