NORWALK - A local organization is responding to the Ebola outbreak overseas by gathering boxes of medical aid to send to the region.

Stamford-based AmeriCares is sending over 2,000 pounds of emergency medical supplies to West Africa. Officials say the supplies will help the health workers.

The supplies include 20,000 pairs of gloves, surgical masks, and 60,000 surgical caps.

There is currently no cure for Ebola, and the disease is contracted through the exchange of bodily fluids. Health workers are vulnerable, and simple supplies like latex gloves could make a difference between life or death.

More than 700 people have died from the disease so far in West Africa.

The concern of the virus spreading has the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warning Americans not to travel to Guinea, Liberia or Sierra Leone.
