STAMFORD - A human resource specialist for Stamford has been arrested on charges that he embezzled money from the city.

Fred Manfredonia is facing several charges for allegedly taking money from the city's employee tuition reimbursement fund.

Police say Manfredonia stole nearly $14,000 by forging endorsements on checks made out to five different city employees. The checks were meant as reimbursement for the cost of taking courses.

The city says based on their accountants? findings, more charges may be filed and changes made to city procedures.

Manfredonia was released on $50,000 bond. He's scheduled to be in court May 13.
