STAMFORD - A surgeon at Stamford Hospital was back at work Monday after returning from a trip to treat patients in Haiti.

Dr. David Reed flew down about two weeks ago with 12 suitcases of supplies.

The doctor says he was forced to create an office out of what once was a dance hall.

In the cramped quarters, Dr. Reed says he saw 732 patients, many of them children.

Dr. Reed says he'll always remember one young girl who he treated for a bad cut on her foot. "In the United States, we'd take her to the OR and clean it out. Three, four week antibiotics, multiple trips. We'd probably save the foot. There it's going to be amputated."

Despite that, Dr. Reed says the people he treats are grateful for any help they can get.
