STAMFORD - The Stamford Fire Department is urging residents to "adopt" a fire hydrant.

Firefighters say residents need to pay closer attention to the hydrants on city streets. They are urging people to be aware of where their nearest hydrant is.

Residents are also asked to do their part by digging hydrants out from the snow. That way, they can be quickly located and accessed in case of an emergency.
