STAMFORD - A food bank in Stamford said on Wednesday that it has ended its partnership with a statewide program that previously supplied more than half of its food.

The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County is now independent, and is no longer serving as a redistribution warehouse for the larger Connecticut Food Bank.

The Fairfield food bank's executive director, Kate Lombardo, says the two agencies were partners for more than 15 years, but they were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract.

She says the Connecticut Food Bank provided about 60 percent of the food that local pantries would serve.

Lombardo says she now worries for local agencies who've relied on Lower Fairfield for their Connecticut Food Bank resources.

The Connecticut Food Bank's CEO told News 12 that those groups will still get their food, but it will be delivered directly from East Haven or Fairfield.
