STAMFORD - A fight at a Stamford mini-mart early Saturday morning sent three people to the hospital.

Police say the altercation began in an alley when one man was stabbed. Police say the man suspected in the stabbing ran to the Downtown Mini Mart on Washington Boulevard and barricaded himself inside. But the group of men involved in the fracas forced the door open and the fight resumed inside the store.

Mohammed Uddin, who owns the mini-mart, says one of his employees called Stamford police as he took cover. When they arrived, two people were arrested, three were taken to the hospital and there was $4,000 to $5,000 worth of damage to the store, Uddin says.

James Bates Sr., who lives in the area, says the Stamford Police Department does a good job, but that a curfew may be necessary.

"I don't think it's as bad as New Haven and Hartford, but if we get to where they need to make a curfew then I think they should step up," he says.

The condition of the three men hurt in the fight is unknown, but police say the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
