Stamford gun thief sentenced to probation

STAMFORD - A Stamford man who teamed up with a friend to steal several high-end rifles from a home was sentenced to probation today.

Nik Gjuraj, 22, will not serve any time behind bars after police say he and his accomplice, Eric Diaz stole rifles and ammunition from a home on Denise Drive in November of 2009.

Police say the family that lives there had the guns and ammo in the garage in preparation for a hunting trip.

Investigators sent a police dog through the neighborhood on the search for the suspects, and portions of the area, including the nearby Newfield Elementary School, were placed on lockdown.

Officials say Diaz is facing prison time.
