STAMFORD - A Stamford man appeared in court this afternoon to face a charge of trying to hire a hit man.

Police say German Zecena, 44, tried to have a Greenwich man killed.

Police say they learned of the plot through an informant and set up a sting to catch Zecena.

Police have not said who Zecena wanted killed and they are trying to figure out why he wanted to carry out those plans.

Court records show that Zecena was willing to pay an undercover officer $6,000 to stab the target to death.

He is being held on $500,000 bond.
