STAMFORD - A Stamford man is facing up to a year and a half in prison after pleading guilty to killing federally protected hawks.

Yesterday in court, state prosecutors say 43-year-old Adam Boguski admitted to trapping and killing red-tailed and Cooper's hawks on at least four occasions last year.

Investigators say Boguski and a friend built a racing pigeon coop on Weed Avenue in Stamford and were worried the hawks would attack their birds when they let them fly for exercise.

He's scheduled to be sentenced in October.
