STAMFORD - A man who was driving through Stamford yesterday says he was almost killed when a tree fell onto his car.

Gerhard Hutter says he was on his way to church as he drove on Long Ridge Road when a large tree fell and landed on his BMW.

Hutter was trapped inside as his car started to smoke. He was eventually able to escape through the passenger-side window.

Hutter walked away uninjured, with only a few bumps and scratches.
