STAMFORD - Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia says he will not run for re-election.

The Republican succeeded Dannel Malloy as mayor in 2009. Pavia says the time has come for him to return to life as a businessman and private citizen.

The mayor says it's been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Stamford in the city's top job and that it was not easy deciding to step down.
