STAMFORD - Stamford police and school administrators held a meeting Monday night to talk with residents about the rash of recent shootings in their neighborhood.

The meeting was held at Westover Magnet Elementary School. Police have responded to several shootings in the past few months near an apartment on Myano Lane, which is in a neighborhood next to the school. As a precaution, police have stepped up their patrols in the area.

Police say they expect the violence to soon wind down, since the people who resided in the apartment are either in jail or in the process of being evicted.

Parents say that while the meeting was productive, they are still worried about the possibility of the family living in the Myano Lane apartment returning.

Administrators at the school say the meeting was called after parents expressed concern for their children's safety.

School principal Kathleen Wunder says that a security guard has been present since the end of January.

Police say they have been proactive in securing the school grounds and will continue to monitor the area.
