STAMFORD - A Stamford police officer has been released from the hospital today after crashing his cruiser yesterday en route to an emergency. Police say the accident happened near the corner of Hoyt and Washington streets. Officer Christopher Petrizzi, who was reporting to a brawl downtown, hit a pickup truck after the driver allegedly made an illegal U-turn. Investigators say four people were inside the truck, and that they were all sent to the hospital. Petrizzi suffered several broken bones. Officials say the driver of the pickup truck was fined for making the illegal turn.
