Stamford police officer shot during drug raid

STAMFORD - Stamford police say they have a suspect in custody tonight after he shot a police officer in the face.

Officials say Officer Richard Gasparino was shot on Lockwood Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. while executing a drug raid. They say Gasparino is a member of the narcotics and organized crime squad.

Police say when Gasperino approached the door, the suspect opened fire and a bullet went through the door, striking him in the face.

Gasparino is at Stamford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Police have not released the identity of the shooter.
