STAMFORD - Stamford police officers say it is a miracle that a fellow officer who was shot in the face last night is recovering at home.
Authorities say Officer Richard Gasperino was shot while he was serving a warrant at a home on Lockwood Avenue.
The Stamford police chief says Officer Gasperino had facial surgery last night and went home today. Officers, friends and family members spent the day at the hospital and say he is lucky to be alive.
The department says it has a peer team that is offering counseling to other officers that were affected by the shooting.
