STAMFORD - Stamford police are investigating a string of car burglaries across the city.

Authorities say all of the crimes have occurred overnight, and that most victims have reported the theft of cash, cellphones and GPS units. Police add that all of the targeted cars were left unlocked.

The break-ins have happened in the Shippan and Shippan Point neighborhoods, as well on the city's east side.

Detectives say they have reason to believe local high school students may be responsible.
