STAMFORD - Three pools in Stamford are offering free swimming lessons to children this week in memory of a local teen who drowned in June.
Rashad Gross, 13, was in a no-swimming area of Cove Island Park when he drowned. His family says he didn't know how to swim, and now they're encouraging others to learn how.
The Stamford Swims in Memory of Rashad Gross program is taking place at the Stamford YMCA, Stamford Piers and the Yerwood Center. The five-day course teaches basic swimming lessons to children between the ages of 6 and 14.
