STAMFORD - Department of Public Works crews in Stamford were busy dealing with pothole problems on Wednesday.

DPW officials say the weather last week was detrimental to the roads, and they are trying to get ahead of the problem.

The DPW says the warmer weather, followed by freezing temperatures and snow can often cause potholes. They say they filled dozens of potholes on Wednesday.

"It was 60 degrees one day and then 12 inches of snow the next," said Thomas Turk of Stamford's DPW. "That's not kind to the roads."

As part of the process to repair potholes, crews pour asphalt in them and use a special machine to set it in place. The DPW says they try to hit the bigger potholes first.

Residents who see a pothole can report it by calling the DPW.
