STAMFORD - Some Stamford seniors who were told they couldn?t be active anymore due to illnesses are getting up, working out and having fun ? all because of a video game system.

The Brighton Garden Assisted Living facility is the first senior care center in southwestern Connecticut to have a Nintendo Wii system.

The system allows users to interact with the television, using body motions, in a variety of games and sports. Many seniors say they enjoy having success in sports they used to play without ever leaving the building.

Directors at the facility say the Wii is a good way to get in some exercise for their seniors. They also believe the Wii will entice younger relatives of their residents to visit.
