Stamford students & Safe Rides hold event at Peachwave Frozen Yogurt Shop in Norwalk to prevent drunken driving deaths

NORWALK - Students in Norwalk hosted an event Friday to prevent drunken driving deaths.

Students from Brian McMahon and Norwalk high schools, along with Safe Rides, held the event at Peachwave Frozen Yogurt Shop in Norwalk.

Safe Rides offers to drive young people home in the Norwalk area after they have been out drinking.

The program started last week, and organizers say that on its first night, about 400 people signed up.

Safe Rides received 20 percent of purchases made Friday at the yogurt shop.
