STAMFORD - A beloved math teacher at a Stamford middle school was found dead in his classroom Monday of an apparent heart attack.

Students found Vincent Sheridan, 63, slumped over his desk at Cloonan Middle School as classes were about to begin. Sheridan, a 37-year veteran of the Stamford School District, was set to retire at the end of the year.

Administrators call Sheridan a wonderful teacher. Students called him ?Sarge? for his strength in the classroom.

?When a student said they weren?t interested or couldn?t learn, he never accepted that as an answer,? says Cloonan Middle School Principal David Rudolph. ?A strong sense of sadness [is] going around the school.?

A wake for Sheridan will be held Thursday at Leo Gallagher & Son Funeral Home in Stamford. He will be laid to rest Friday at the Church of St. Cecilia.
