STAMFORD - A Stamford psychotherapist appeared in court today to face gun charges.

Police say in May they found two guns in the possession of John Gagnon, a convicted sex offender, when they went to his home after receiving a complaint. According to authorities, one of Gagnon's patients reported that the psychotherapist was wearing a firearm during a counseling session.

Gagnon's attorney, however, insists the guns were only replicas.

Arrest records show Gagnon was convicted in 1989 for impersonating an officer and sexually assaulting a woman.

He's also on parole for a 2008 drug charge. In 2004, Gagnon was charged with treating patients while wearing an Army general's uniform.

Gagnon received a continuance this morning and posted $100,000 bond.
