STAMFORD - The city of Stamford unveiled more than a dozen "deeply affordable" apartments Tuesday.

The Gateway House, located at 23 Spruce St., will be housing 16 formerly homeless people. The rent in the new units is just $235 per month. All 16 residents should be in their new home by the end of the month.

Officials are hoping the Gateway House and other deeply affordable locations will help solve their housing issue. Stamford is currently the fifth-most expensive housing market in the nation.

The nonprofit Pacific House is also developing more affordable housing in Stamford and Norwalk. Connecticut's housing commissioner says the state is adding almost 17,000 affordable housing units.
