Start of school delayed in aftermath of Irene

BRIDGEPORT - Many school districts in southwestern Connecticut are still unsure when students will return from summer break after delaying the start of classes due to Hurricane Irene.

Many school superintendents say they're waiting for utility companies to fully restore power to schools that are relying on generators. Norwalk officials say schools may not reopen for another week.

Bridgeport Superintendent Joe Ramos says all public schools, with the exception of Hall, Multicultural, High Horizons and Discovery Magnet due to the continued power outage, will be open tomorrow.

Westport school officials say they're scheduled to start tomorrow, along with New Canaan, but in Weston, schools won't open until Thursday at the earliest.
