EAST HAVEN - (AP) - Federal and state officials havepromised to begin the hard work of cleaning up the damage caused byTropical Storm Irene on Connecticut's shoreline.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Homeland Security Secretary JanetNapolitano toured a hard-hit beach-front neighborhood in East Havenon Monday. About 20 homes in the neighborhood are a total loss,with many others severely damaged.

Other towns on Connecticut's shoreline on Long Island Sound alsowere heavily damaged.

Malloy said the Federal Emergency Management Agency will openoffices in Connecticut by Thursday to assess damages and meet withresidents.
