HARTFORD - Gov. Dannel Malloy says the state will let go of 4,742 employees today after talks with state unions have broken down.

Malloy says he has failed to reach agreements with the unions on $1 billion in concessions.

Malloy says the layoffs will save the state $455 million.

He says he will now instruct the state to cut another $545 million from across state government. He says those cuts will likely include more layoffs as well as some programs but no new tax increases.
