HARTFORD - State officials have revealed that the state’s prison population has gone down over the past year.

According to officials, the prison system had approximately 16,500 inmates on May 1, which is 200 less people from last May.

In addition, officials say the number of offenders on parole also dropped, down 19 percent from a year ago.
