HARTFORD - The state Senate passed a two-year $44 billion budget Monday night following nearly seven hours of debate.

The bill was approved 19-17 with all Republicans and three Democrats making up the opposition.

The new plan expands video gambling in Connecticut and shifts $6 billion in mostly Medicaid spending out from under the constitutional spending cap.

The bill now heads to Gov. Malloy's desk to be signed into law.
