HARTFORD - State lawmakers in Hartford held the first meeting of the bipartisan Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention and Children's Safety on Friday.

The panel was established in the wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. It will be responsible for reviewing gun and ammunition laws, mental health services and school security in the state.

A public hearing hosted by the panel will be held at Newtown High School later this month and a website for the task force will be up by Tuesday.
