Stew Leonard's not coming to Orange

NORWALK - Stew Leonard's dairy store will not be moving to Orange.

After more than a decade of legal battles, the company chose to give up on its efforts to bring its distinctive store to the town. Stew Leonard, Jr. said they arrived at the decision months ago, but only recently made the news public.

The company was supposed to develop the store on Marsh Hill Road. They purchased the land 14 years ago, but put it on the market last summer after the State Supreme Court overturned the town's wetland commission approval due to technicalities.

Leonard says market research shows that a store in Orange would cut into the customer base of his Norwalk and Newington stores.
