REDDING - Tuesday's thunderstorms knocked down trees and left nearly 2,000 people in Redding without power.

Redding officials say Eversource Energy is expected to work throughout the night to repair the damage.

Metro-North service was also affected by the fast-moving storm. One resident said he was delayed near the Branchville stop because of several branches on the tracks.

Officials say many streets were closed as a result of downed trees. They asked residents to be safe, remain vigilant and stay off the roads, if possible.

There was no word on when power will be restored.
