STRATFORD - Stratford unveiled three new patrol boats as it kicked off National Safe Boating Week today.

One of them is a 31-foot aluminum police boat. The others are a fire boat and a Coast Guard Auxiliary Patrol vessel.

The town's police chief says the new boat already came in handy when a kayaker went missing a few weeks ago. He said it was the only boat in the area capable of handling the 5-6 foot waves at the time.

Despite the new additions, the Coast Guard says boaters should always wear life jackets to prevent accidents.
