STRATFORD - A crane came crashing down onto live electrical wires in Stratford this morning, sending a worker to the hospital.
The accident happened behind the Stop & Shop in the Dock Shopping Center at around 9 a.m. Authorities say the portable crane toppled while being used to build a private access road next to the Moses Wheeler Bridge.
On its way to the ground, the portable crane struck a building belonging to Boardwalk Marina. Witnesses say they mistook the impact that followed for an explosion.
Officials say the crane operator was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
This marks the third major accident on the $400 million construction project.
