Stratford mayor takes on FAA over parking lot

STRATFORD - The mayor of Stratford spoke out Friday against allegations made by the Federal Aviation Administration that the parking lot at Long Beach West is not owned by his town.

The FAA recently sent a letter to the city of Bridgeport stating that the parking lot belongs to Sikorsky Airport, which is Bridgeport property. But Stratford Mayor Jim Miron says the FAA has it all wrong.

?It is outrageous to me that the FAA would first make assertions that have no basis in fact, no basis in the law, that are without any due diligence,? Miron says.

Miron is concerned that the FAA announcement will hamper the potential sale of Long Beach West to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The city council meeting that may decide the fate of Long Beach West is scheduled for Aug. 11.

Miron says the city hired an independent title search company, which can prove that Stratford does indeed own the property.

?The town of Stratford isn't going to be bullied, threatened or intimidated by any governmental agency, certainly not the FAA,? Miron says.

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch says he is convinced that a deal could still be reached between the town of Stratford and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, regardless of the parking lot status.
