STRATFORD - Stratford is mourning Frank DeLuca today after the neighborhood softball legend died on Monday.

Residents say that in addition to being an upstanding citizen, DeLuca was a softball legend who was recognized worldwide. He was the first slow-pitch player elected to the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in 1974.

Bob Baird, general manager of the Stratford Brakettes softball team, says he knew DeLuca for more than 50 years. He also says DeLuca meant a lot to the sport of softball and to the entire town.

The Brakettes open their final tournament of the season tomorrow evening, and will honor DeLuca prior to the first pitch. His funeral will be held Friday morning.
