STRATFORD - The family of a murdered Sandy Hook Elementary School teacher is asking the public to help finance a playground in her name.

An organization known as the "Sandy Hook Project" plans on building the playground at Longbrook Park in Stratford in honor of Victoria Soto. She was among 26 students and faculty members killed when Adam Lanza opened fire at the school last December.

The playground will replace the current structure and will cost up to $70,000. Soto's brother says the organization has the funding, but is raising money to replenish the cash that will be used.

The Sandy Ground Project will include 26 new playgrounds across the state, one for each of the Sandy Hook victims.

The playground honoring Soto will be built in Longbrook Park.
