STRATFORD - ? A South Africa native says his love for the little-known sport of underwater hockey began thanks to the YMCA in Stratford.
Patrick Hanrahan says after learning about the sport, he was then able to find others that shared his passion, eventually establishing a team.
The game is played without scuba gear and each goal is scored while players hold their breath underwater.
In April, Hanrahan took his team on the road to George Mason University in Virginia to play in the Atlantic Coast championship, losing in overtime.
However, he says that it was never about winning, but just playing the little-known sport he's grown to love.
