NORWALK - Residents across southwestern Connecticut are cleaning up from damage left behind by winds that swept through the area.

In Norwalk, a giant tree that fell onto the driveway of a local family kept them from coming out of their home. In Greenwich, Connecticut Light & Power says about 500 homes and businesses woke up in the dark after branches took out two wires along East Putnam Avenue.

The National Weather Service says wind gusts in the area topped out near 50 mph.
