NORWALK - A new study shows a correlation between exercise and having better sleep patterns.

Dr. Ian Weir, the director of the Insomnia Center at Norwalk Hospital, says time at the gym helps improve sleep in two ways.

Weir says exercise will produce a natural chemical in the body that helps produce a good, sound sleep. Secondly, Weir says the more exercise and activity a person does during the day, the more likely they are to be tired at night.

However, Weir also contends that in order to feel the benefits, the activity must be fairly intense and should reach the point where a person is sweating.
