STAMFORD - The man charged in the drunken-driving death of a Stamford woman appeared in court Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and other charges.

Giovanni Cucullo, 41, of Yonkers, N.Y., is accused of being drunk when he crashed on High Ridge Road last month. His passenger, 27-year-old Maryann Loprete, died in the crash.

Cucullo was on crutches in court as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.

Cucullo's attorney says his client plans on taking responsibility for the crash.
